The Pirates got the start they wanted from newly-acquired pitcher Bryse Wilson, but the bullpen failed them again.
Greg Brown reports on the loss to the Brewers.
Manager Derek Shelton was impressed by the performance of Bryse Wilson in his first appearance as a Pirate.
Centerfielder Bryan Reynolds made another spectacular diving catch in centerfield. He started the season as the Pirates leftfielder, but was moved to center, where he has always wanted to play, after the Bucs’ other centerfielders couldn’t get the job done. Shelton says Reynolds has proven he belongs in center.
Shelton says the long-awaited season debut of pitcher Steven Brault will be in tomorrow afternoon’s series finale against the Brewers. Brault injured the latissimus dorsi muscle in his back during spring training. In twelve-and-two-thirds innings of rehab appearances in the minors, Brault has a 1.42 ERA.
With Brault back, Chad Kuhl steps away to the 10-day covid list after testing positive for coronavirus. Kuhl showed symptoms of covid and notified the team. He was replaced by reliever Shea Spitzbarth, who was called up from Indianapolis. The Pirates also claimed left-hander Anthony Banda off waivers from the Mets.
Game two of the series is tonight. Max Kranick [1-2] pitches for the Pirates against Milwaukee’s Adrian Houser [7-5]. Airtime is 7:45 on Fox Sports 100.9 FM.
