Practice continued for the Steelers on Wednesday, despite the onslaught of rain that impacted most of Pennsylvania.
While most would have viewed the rain as a negative factor at practice, Head Coach Mike Tomlin said the team embraced the rain and used it as an opportunity to get better.
Tomlin emphasized that ball security was one of the main things the team worked on with the rain, and he had mixed emotions. He said the running back committee did really well while the wide receiver core had trouble combatting the weather.
Tomlin talked about running back Kallen Ballage and said he was impressed.
Among notable performances on the practice report, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made two touchdown passes to receivers James Washington and Diontae Johnson. Tight end Pat Friermuth missed a touchdown by a few blades of grass, landing just out of bounds after catching a pass by Mason Rudolph.
Cornerback Mark Gilbert intercepted an under-thrown pass by Dwayne Haskins and Arthur Maulet had a pick-six against Joshua Dobbs.
Practice continues today for the Steelers.
Teams across the NFL had to shave their roster to 85 players on Wednesday and the Steelers made a few cuts to their roster. The team announced the following players were cut to meet roster requirements: defensive end Abdullah Anderson, defensive back Stephen Denmark, wide receiver Isaiah McCoy, offensive lineman Brandon Walton and kicker Sam Sloman.
Teams will need to cut their roster to 80 players on next Tuesday, August 24.
