Pennsylvania’s wild turkey population is the focus of ongoing research, with the public invited to take part as well. The state Game Commission is asking Pennsylvanians to report the locations of any turkey flocks they see between now and March 15th.
Game officials are partnering with Penn State and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wildlife Futures Program. They’ll be looking at such factors as population movement, weather impacts, nesting success, and the effects of disease and changing landscapes. It’s one of the largest research projects of its kind.
Those who spot turkey flocks are asked to go online at pgcdatacollection.pa.gov to provide the necessary information.
