The Pirates last night signed 20-year-old right-handed Taiwanese pitcher Hung-Leng Chang to a contract. He is the 19th prospect signed by the team since the international signing period began on Saturday. His deal is for a reported $500,000, plus a tuition allowance of $100,000.
The three highest-rated prospects signed are Chang, 16-year-old 6’5”, 230-pound power-hitting outfielder/first baseman Tony Blanco, and 17-year-old shortstop Yordany De Los Santos.
Former Pirates pitcher Francisco Liriano announced his retirement yesterday.
