The Steelers yesterday announced that they have signed four undrafted rookie free agents, all of whom attended the team’s rookie minicamp on a “tryout basis.”
The team said they have signed 6’6” 305 lb. defensive lineman Trevon Mason (University of Arizona), cornerback Carlins Platel (South Carolina), kicker Nick Sciba (Wake Forest) and wide receiver Tyler Snead (East Carolina) to rookie contracts.
Mason was a 2021 All-Pac-12 honorable mention and finished last season with 42 tackles; Platel played in 12 games with the Gamecocks last season and accrued 21 tackles; Sciba holds multiple records, including the NCAA record for consecutive field goals made with 34; and Snead finished his college career with 201 catches for 2,380 yards and 18 touchdowns.
To make room on the roster, the Steelers waived WR Rico Bussey, DB Bryce Watts and K Sam Sloman, and terminated the contract of linebacker John Simon.
Former Steelers linebacker Vince Williams announced on his Twitter yesterday that he is joining WPIAL powerhouse Pine-Richland as the team’s linebackers coach.
Williams retired from the Steelers prior to the start of the 2021 Training Camp and tallied 479 total tackles in 121 games with Pittsburgh.
