Teachers in the Penns Manor School District took to the picket lines this morning for the first day of a strike.
Protestors with the PSEA marched across the street from the school complex along Route 403 in Cherryhill Township. The strike comes after over a year of negotiation sessions, including two sessions held Friday and Saturday afternoon. The main sticking point, according to Annie Briscoe of PSEA Western Region, concerned one part of the healthcare plan that involved the teachers’ spouses.
The district has said in news releases that the cost of healthcare continues to increase dramatically for the district as well.
It’s not known at this time how long the strike will last. That determination has to be made by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
The district will hold an informational meeting at the Elementary School’s Multi-Purpose room tonight at 6:00 PM. The meeting is open to the public.
