Penguins GM Kyle Dubas sat down with broadcaster Josh Getzoff yesterday for his biweekly radio show to talk about the team’s performance 24 games into the season. Currently, the Penguins are 11-10-3 and sit next-to-last in the Metro division heading into tonight’s matchup against Tampa Bay.
Dubas acknowledged the team’s lack of success in recent games, but says they’ve “shown an ability to stand toe-to-toe with some of the NHL’s best.” He attributed it to “ebbs and flows of a season,” and he said angst starts to blanket a team, especially one with a winning pedigree like the Penguins.
Dubas also addressed the team’s lackluster Power Play unit, which is 30th in the league. He said other factors, like goaltending and penalty kill, have kept the team in games but “if we can get the power play sorted out, and we continue to build on those other areas… I think we’re going to be in a good spot.”
Tonight’s game between the Penguins and Lightning faces off shortly after 7 o’clock. You’ll hear it starting at 6 on U92.5 FM.
